He Makes the Darkness Tremble

“The king was overjoyed and gave orders to take Daniel out of the den. When Daniel was brought up from the den, he was found to be unharmed, for he trusted in his God.” – Daniel 6:23

What keeps you from having an intimate relationship with the Savior? What makes us hold back? Throughout the Old Testament, God proves His authority and power repeatedly. When it seemed like there was no escape for the Israelites with the Red Sea in front of them and the Egyptians behind them, God split the Red Sea (Ex. 14:16-22). He gave a widow woman more than enough oil to go and sell for money to provide food for her and her son (2 Kings 4: 1-7). He even shut the mouths of lions and sent an angel to be with Daniel, so he wouldn’t be alone. Because God is all-powerful and all-knowing, His ways are better than our ways and He has the authority to do with His people what He wants. Throughout the Bible, God has always used His power and authority to show His people His love for them, His compassion for them, and His plan of salvation for them.

His desire has always been to have an intimate relationship with us, but relationships go both ways. If we hold back from God, how can we expect to be close to Him? Just before God told Moses how to split the Red Sea, Moses told the Israelites to “stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation that he will accomplish for you today” (Ex. 14:13-14.). He had confidence in the Lord, he trusted the Lord to continue to provide a way out for them. Elisha had faith in the Lord and his providence for the widow woman. He knew God was with him. And Daniel had faith in the Lord and continued to pray three times a day, even though he knew he would be caught disobeying the King’s decree. God provides examples for us in his word of men who put their hope in the Lord and God was faithful to them, because He loves them. Good news, Christian: God loves you, too!

Be encouraged today—don’t hold back. Lay everything before the Lord, our God who can part the Red Sea, provide for widows, and shut the mouths of lions—surely nothing is impossible for God! Call out to him, tell him your deepest fears, secrets, and longings. He wants to meet you right where you are. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we have unlimited, unrestrained access to the Father.

“Once you were alienated and hostile in your minds as expressed in your evil actions. But now he has reconciled you by his physical body through his death, to present you holy, faultless, and blameless before him.” Colossians 1:22-23

Trust in your Heavenly Father—He can equip you conquer the mountain in your way. He can silence the raging sea in your heart, with one word. Cry out to him and give him your burdens, because he cares for you. You are not alone, dear Christian—you have a powerful Savior who has defeated Death and is with you wherever you go. Don’t wait—don’t hold back. Come to the Lord today.

There definitely is a great feeling of freedom and relief once we come to the end of ourselves and our independence. We NEED to be under the love and protection of the Savior. I’m still learning that truth.
